Hi everyone,

I recently purchased a hawk to race next season up here in Ontario Canada. Hopefully I can absorb and add some knowledge here, and maybe find some go fast parts while I'm here too!

Hi! nice to hear from you, the first go fast part is underneath the helmet , second one , i think ,is a good suspension set-up for your kind of riding, and the third one is a deep pocket...
Joking apart nice to welcome you here.

Hi Claude,
Thanks for the welcome. The 1st go fast part of me under the helmet is plenty fast, the fat part of me inside the leathers could use some help though!! I agree I need to work on the suspension, does that mean you want to sell me your Penske or Ohlins!

schizm,

Welcome to the forum!

I absolutely agree with tlroldman, software and suspension are the first two things that you need to go racing. You also need some money to make it happen.

Here is one tip that I wish I knew when I first started racing. Only race on fresh tires. After about 6 or 7 heat cycles, put on a new set. Fresh tires hook up immeasurably better than ones that are toast. If you try to go fast on tires that are already done, it'll just teach you to go slow and that the edge of traction is far lower than it really is.

Two questions:

1. What class(es) do you want to race in? Can you send a link to the sanctioning body's website?

2. Do you want to just race, or do you want to win?

Hi Ryan,
Thanks for the welcome.
I will be racing in P4 F3 with the VRRA http://www.vrra.ca/
I will be racing against Hawks (tlroldman & his son), FZR400's, EX500's, RZ350's and RS 125 GP machines.
I have been racing for years and currently race a FZR600 in P4 F2 which I will continue to race next season. Believe me I know how much money it takes to make it happen, my tire budget just doubled LOL.

Based on the list of bikes you'll be running against I'll bet that guys who want to win will be running with built motors of some sort.

If you want to win on the Hawk you'll need something other than the stock motor.

Back when I researched building one it would be about $3,500 - $4,000 for a solid 65hp motor. That's doing it right; falicon crank, carillo rods, etc. etc. etc.

Dominic won the championship with 52 HP , stock motor with a pipe and a jet-kit and pods. he manage 3 1st place and a top five at the big track(mosport were HP is needed).Imagine if he had 62HP.There would be a change in the rules in VRRA.

I just read through the VRRA rule book. The "Max allowable overbore is 5% over class limit." is what enables the Hawk to be competitive in those classes.

The rules for WERA and CSS in the US aren't nearly as fair and create a much more uneven playing field.

I wish I lived closer to Canada. Period 4 Forumla 3 sounds like an awesome class and I'll bet makes for some great racing.
